Meet the Chief

Chief Johnny Whitaker was born and raised in Holmes County, Florida. He graduated from Holmes County High School in 1990. Chief Whitaker is a husband to his devoted wife, a father to his daughter, a Poppy to his grandchild, a son, brother, and friend. 

Chief Whitaker started his Law Enforcement Career in 1994 at the Bonifay Police Department. In 2023, Chief Whitaker retired from the Florida Highway Patrol after nearly 30 years in his law enforcement career. After his retirement, Chief Whitaker was asked to lead the Bonifay Police Department in Chief capacity. 

Chief Whitaker is known for his commitment to integrity, his willingness to go the extra mile, and his dedication to justice. His leadership style is characterized by a rare blend of calmness and courage. He leads by example, demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges and empathy in moments of crisis. His ability to connect with people on a personal level and facilitate a sense of community and cooperation that extends beyond the uniform. His extensive knowledge in law enforcement makes him more than qualified to be the Chief of Police.
