Meet the Chief

Chief Travis F. Cook is a lifetime resident of the City of Bonifay. He is a 4th generation fire fighter and dedicated first responder. Chief Cook is a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Along with being Fire Chief for Bonifay-Fire Rescue, Chief Cook serves as Walton County Fire’s Division Chief of Logistics.

Chief Cook has over 20 years of experience in being a First Responder. He began his career with Holmes County EMS in 2006 and served there 13 years with 4 of them being a paramedic supervisor. Chief Cook accepted a career with Walton County Fire in November of 2019 where he became a SWAT Medic and also served as a Field Training Officer. In March of 2021, Chief Cook was appointed as the Field Training and Evaluation Program Coordinator. We are excited to congratulate him on his most recent promotion of becoming the Division Chief of Logistics.

Chief Cook is the epitome of our mottos, “Pride Protecting People” and “Service Over Self”. He leads by example, embodying courage and compassion in every call he responds to. He consistently demonstrates integrity, courage, commitment, and intelligence. His actions are rooted in a strong moral compass, ensuring that ethical considerations are at the forefront of every decision. Family is also at the heart of Chief Cook's values, and this extends to the fire department "family" he leads. He fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual support among his team, creating an environment where each member feels valued and motivated to excel in their roles. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our department and uses every opportunity he can to teach others. Chief Cook ensures our department is always prepared to handle any situation. Whether implementing innovative training programs or leading by example, he is dedicated to ensuring the highest standard of professionalism in our department. 

Chief Cook is not only a leader in emergency situations, but a leader in our community. He has served as Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Councilman to the City of Bonifay, using his leadership skills to make calculated decisions for the betterment of all citizens. He fosters building a longstanding relationship with our city and our citizens in any capacity he serves in. Chief Cook's legacy in the fire service is one of leadership, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to safety. He serves as an inspiration to both aspiring firefighters and professionals alike, embodying the essence of what it means to be a dedicated and compassionate Fire Chief.
